What Would You Do?

The Great Singapore Sale was on and you went on a shopping spree. You have been shopping for hours and didn't realise how tired your legs were until you stood still waiting for the train home. The station was crowded with other shoppers and people on their way home. You didn't expect to be able to squeeze into the train lest get a seat to rest your aching legs. The train arrived and somehow you managed to sandwich yourself through the door and luck was on your side. You spotted an empty seat next to the door and without hesitation you rest your butt on it. It definitely felt good to be seated after all those walking. Then at the next station, an old feebly-looking man boarded the train. He stood near the door, right in front of you. He swayed as the train jerked and appeared as if he would topple any time. What would you do? Would you give up your seat and stand for the rest of the journey home carrying your bags of shopping ? Or would you pretend not to see him and doze off from your tiredness? Or would you hope that somebody else would offer their seat to him?

You were having lunch at a crowded food court. An old lady was making her round among the tables selling packets of tissue paper. Just as you were about to leave the table, she appeared in front of you. Holding 4 packets of tissue in one outstretched hand and gesturing the price with the other. She looked straight into your eyes with those pleading eyes and claimed that she had not taken her lunch. However, what you have left then was the $2 which you have set aside to buy that favourite weekly magazine on your way home. What would you do? Would you part with the money to buy the packets of tissues which you didn't need? Or would you ignore her, grasp your belongings and vanish into the crowd? Or would you wave her off and hope that somebody else would buy from her?

The person that you have always been dying to go out with finally agreed to a date. You were so excited about it that you spent too much time dressing up and left late for your appointment. You waited impatiently for a cab to come by. Just then you spotted one from a distant and you hailed for it. As the cab approached, you saw an old lady who while attempting to cross the road have spewed out her trolley of purchases onto the road. What would you do? Would you wave the taxi away and run across the road to help her? Or would you pretend not to have seen what happened and continued to board the cab? Or would you hope that she would be able to pick everything up herself?

What would you do if you were caught in any of the above situation? Well, some of you might not have second thought as to what you should do, some would hesitate and others would just make sure that they are never in such situations. There are no right or wrong decision but before you take any action do bear in mind that we will all grow old one day.
